YOUNG PEOPLE CASE STUDIES | TRACEY-ANN

“This program has been a phenomenal journey…I want to say thank you, but thank you is not even the
word for what I feel.”

Five years ago, Tracey-Ann (30) quit her job to start something new. She now runs two grassroots social enterprises in her neighborhood of Jamaica.

In 2017, Tracey-Ann set up i-SEEED, a community club that supports young people to reach their potential, whatever their circumstances – and despite high neighborhood rates of unemployment, crime and early parenthood. She founded her second organization, Get Out Alive World, in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic and related lockdowns saw domestic violence surge.

Tracey-Ann is driven by a strong, personal commitment to both these causes, with first-hand experience of both domestic violence and early parenthood – she was just 14 when she became a mother.

In early 2022, Tracey-Ann took part in the Explore Enterprise program, run by Jamaica Youth Business Trust with support from Prince’s Trust International. The program empowers young entrepreneurs, whatever stage they are at, to build and grow their business. Tracey-Ann hoped it would help her find ways to strengthen her finances and scale up her services.

Using her knowledge from the program, Tracey-Ann is now restructuring i-SEEED to create a non-profit and a profit-making arm. She has also officially registered the organization, meaning it can now access a far wider range of funding streams.

The tips from the program have also changed how Tracey-Ann writes funding proposals for Get Out Alive World, so that they cover all core overhead costs as well as specific program activities. She plans to register this organization too in the near future.

With sound finances, Tracey-Ann’s organizations can continue to serve their community for many years to come. Together, they already support over 160 people every week.

We want to give more young people the opportunity to develop the skills suitable for the world of work. We want to nurture talent and give support to this emerging generation of entrepreneurs.

Through our Enterprise programs we prepare young people for self-employment, freelance work and creating their own businesses. Many of these programs focus on specific opportunities in the digital and green sectors. Funds raised tonight will be used to support this new generation of entrepreneurs with further training and targeted investment.

program I was

dealer.”

Akeme, Enterprise  Participant, Barbados, 2020

78% of young people believe their generation can create solutions to some of society and the world’s biggest challenges.

“Sometimes you find whatever we are taught in school is very different from whatever you come to do when you start working”

Future of Work survey  Participant, 16-22, Kenya

We empower young people to shape their own future and create their own opportunities.
